The blood vessels and nerves go in several directions to provide proper flow of blood throughout the tongue.

Besides, tongue is the first body part in humans that actually comes in contact with outside elements like, food, drink, water, medicine or other substances.

This is a first step of protection from the harmful elements of the world because it is a sensitive area and brain has provided an apt defence mechanism to the body.

There are a lot of causes that can affect the blood vessel and nerves of the tongue to produce such a response of numbness. They are,

Inflammatory Problems:

  • Allergic: if you eat food or a substance that your immunity deems as harmful then the first signs would be swelling, tingling or tongue numbness.

Environmental Issues:

  • Vitamin and Mineral Imbalance: certain vitamins like B12 and D play a vital role in proper functioning of the nerves. Deficiency of these vitamins can lead to nerve damage. But if you take too much of vitamin B6 then it may cause numbness in certain body parts.
  • Minerals like calcium and phosphates are necessary for the proper overall functioning of the body. The deficiency of minerals in your body can cause the tip of tongue numb.

Systemic Issues:

  • Central Nervous System: tip of tongue numb can be a signal or a symptom of an upcoming dangerous attack or stroke too.
  • Metabolic: the dysfunction of daily body processes like hypoglycaemia can majorly affect the nerve functioning. It thus causes tingling and numb feeling in the mouth and tongue.
