Great Ways in Which You Can Use Mayonnaise for Hair Treatment

Who doesn’t love mayonnaise which magically enhances the taste of anything it is added to, including rolls, sandwiches and what not! However, too much of mayonnaise is not considered good for health as it contains a lot of fat that can get accumulated in the body and lead to conditions like obesity.

Then again, if there is one part of the body that never tends to complain about too much mayonnaise, it is your hair. Surprised? Well, don’t be, for a mayonnaise hair treatment is one treat your hair will thank you for eternity.

How does mayonnaise help your hair?

Mayonnaise is considered a wonder ingredient for all kinds of hair treatment. The reason for this happens to be the ingredients that go into making it, including oil, vinegar and eggs.

Each of these ingredients has its own way of making your hair look lustrous and voluminous again. So imagine the effect all these ingredients will have on your hair when combined into one power packed mayonnaise treatment for your hair.

The Manifold Benefits of Mayonnaise for hair

In case you are still apprehensive about sporting a mayonnaise hair treated updo, take a look at some of the benefits you stand to enjoy by using this magic ingredient in your hair care routine.

It helps moisturize your hair: Mayonnaise contains a lot of oils that help moisturize and nourish your hair from root to tip. Its nourishing and moisturizing properties are considered very beneficial for dry, damaged or chemically processed hair.

It protects hair from the sun’s UV rays: Mayonnaise forms a thin protective coating on the hair strands after application. This, in turn, helps protect the hair from the harmful UV rays of the sun.

It protects hair from styling products: Continuous styling can leave your hair dull, dry and damaged. Mayonnaise for hairs helps replenish the lost nutrients in the scalp as well as the hair, thus ensuring that your hair remains beautiful no matter how many times you style it. The protective coating offered by mayonnaise also protects the hair strands from continuous heat styling.

It helps prevent breakage: Mayonnaise can easily be considered as an all-in-one treatment for any kind of hair problems. While the eggs and oils in it help nourish the hair from root to tip, the vinegar content helps restore the hair’s pH to healthy levels. This, in turn, will stop hair fall while encouraging new growth right from the root.

It helps offer volume and shine to the hair: The rich protein content of mayonnaise helps to fill the gaps between the hair strands, thus making your hair look more voluminous. It is this same protein content that also nourishes the hair strands from within to offer a smooth, excellent shine from root to tip.

General Tips to Follow for Mayonnaise for Hair

Using mayonnaise for hair treatment is a great option if your hair is prone to dryness, dullness and damage. Here are some general tips that will come in handy when using mayonnaise for your hair.

Use only real mayonnaise: Always ensure to use real mayonnaise and not any substitute. Also make sure that you choose the full fat mayonnaise instead of the fat free one which will not have any effect on your hair except making it look greasy.

Choose mayonnaise amount accordingly: The amount of conditioner needed for hair has always been a subject of debate among women. Generally, it is preferred that one chooses the amount of conditioner as per the thickness and length of the hair.

The same rules apply for mayonnaise hair treatments as well. Make it a point to use only that amount of mayonnaise that is needed for your hair (in relation to its length and thickness). While choosing too little will not have the desired effect on your hair, choosing too much will leave behind a greasy look that would be hard to wash off for days.

Allow mayonnaise to come to room temperature: Most of us tend to keep mayonnaise in the refrigerator. It is best to allow the mayonnaise to come to room temperature before mixing it with the rest of the ingredients for a hair mask.

Doing so will prevent lumps in the mix in addition to ensuring that the mayonnaise penetrates the hair follicles properly when applied. Therefore, take out the mayonnaise from the refrigerator at least an hour beforehand, allowing it to warm up nicely before you start using it.

Dampen your hair: Some hair treatments may need you to rinse your hair. And some may require you to apply the mayonnaise on dry hair. If no instructions are given though, make it a point to dampen your hair just a little bit before applying the mayonnaise. This will make it easier for the mayonnaise to stick to the hair follicles.

Trap heat to open pores: You would have read about wrapping your head with a towel after applying the mayonnaise in some of the treatments mentioned in this post. This is done to help the mayonnaise penetrate the hair strands faster.

Trapping the heat inside the hair with the help of a warm towel can therefore, help you get the best results out of the mayonnaise hair treatment.

Use hotter towel for intense treatment: Prefer a shorter treatment than the one that takes 30 minutes to an hour? Consider wrapping your mayonnaise covered scalp and hair with a hot towel instead. This will offer a more intense treatment for your hair, leaving you with shiny hair in a lesser time interval.

Of course, we don’t recommend you opt for the hot towel treatment too much as it can damage your hair in the long run.

Leave overnight for better conditioning: It is recommended that you leave the mayonnaise in your hair overnight for best results. This will condition your hair deeply, making it look smooth and shiny for many days afterwards.

Use diluted shampoo: You may be required to use a shampoo to rinse off the mayonnaise from your hair. Beware though; too much shampoo can remove all the benefits of the mayonnaise. So use sparse amounts of shampoo for the rinsing process.

Of course, if you really need to use more shampoo, dilute it with some water beforehand. This will allow you to shampoo more than once to remove the mayonnaise without worrying about damaging your hair in the process.

Use leftover mayonnaise on face: Have some leftover mayonnaise from the treatment? Here’s a tip. Apply it all over your face. Wait for 15 – 20 minutes afterwards and wash off the mayonnaise with cold water. You will notice your face become softer with regular use. Your face will also start glowing beautifully with repeated use of mayonnaise.

So there you have it. These are some of the really great ways in which you can use mayonnaise to treat your hair problems and make your hair grow long, lustrous and shiny again.
